Small–medium — 33–43 cm at the shoulder, 7–11 kg.

Temperament

Alert, confident, cat-like in cleanliness and independence. Playful with family, wary of strangers.

History

The Shiba is the oldest and smallest of Japan's native breeds. Nearly lost during WWII, careful reconstitution from three surviving bloodlines preserved the modern Shiba we know today.

Care

Thrives with brisk daily walks and mental engagement. Secure fencing is essential — Shibas are famous escape artists with strong prey drive.
